Seasonal mapping: when one study is not enough

If ambient conditions drive the space, the study must cover the ambient conditions that matter.

Refrigerated equipment with good control is largely insensitive to season; a lightly insulated ambient warehouse is not. The question to ask is whether the worst-case ambient condition was present during the study.

Options

  • Map in summer and winter, and keep the sensor plan identical so results compare.
  • Map once at the worst-case season if a documented assessment shows the other season is bounded.
  • Use continuous monitoring data from the mapped positions to demonstrate seasonal behaviour after the initial study.

Record ambient weather (and internal heating/cooling status) during any mapping study; it is the context that makes seasonal comparison meaningful.

Frequently asked questions

Is seasonal mapping required by GDP?
GDP requires mapping under representative conditions; for spaces influenced by ambient weather, that is generally read as covering the seasons that matter or justifying why one bounds the risk.
Can monitoring data replace a second seasonal mapping study?
Often, if monitoring sensors sit at the mapped worst-case positions and the data through the other season stay within limits — the justification should be documented.
