Mass and Balance Calibration Worksheet

Raw data for weights and weighing instruments: repeatability, eccentricity, linearity.

Purpose

The technical record for mass and weighing instrument calibration under SOP-26: for weights, the comparator, reference weights, ABBA readings, air density and buoyancy correction and conventional mass; for instruments, the repeatability, errors of indication, eccentricity and the weights used at each load, with uncertainty and checks.

What it covers

  • Reference standards and equipment
  • Environment and air density
  • Part A - Weights
  • Part B - Weighing instrument
  • Uncertainty and decision rule
  • Deviations, observations and nonconforming work
  • Checks
  • Authorisation

How to complete it

  1. 1.Complete Part A for weights or Part B for weighing instruments (or both).
  2. 2.Record ambient temperature, pressure and humidity at start and end and the computed air density.
  3. 3.Part A: record every reading of every ABBA cycle; compute differences per cycle, mean and standard deviation; record densities used.
  4. 4.Part B: record the instrument warm-up and exercising, zero and load readings for each test, and the identity and class of each weight used.

Before you use it

  • Replace every square-bracket token, starting with [LABORATORY NAME], [ADDRESS] and [EFFECTIVE DATE]. The full token list is in GD-01 Read Me First.
  • Have the content technically reviewed against how your laboratory actually works, then approved by the responsible manager before it becomes a controlled document.
  • Update the Word fields after editing so the table of contents and page numbers are correct: select all, then press F9.
  • Record the document in your own document register and set its review date.
